About the Cacao
Cacao has grown in India for over 50 years, introduced by Cadbury at the end of British colonial rule. The climate suits cacao, but production stays small — just 0.3% of the world’s total.
The Farm
The Anamalai Farm, near Pollachi in the foothills of the Western Ghats, grows cocoa, coconut and nutmeg together. Owners Harish Manoj and Karthi Palaniswamy use drip irrigation and a small herd of cows for weeding and compost. Cocoa is fermented in 5 tiers of wood boxes and sun-dried on raised beds.
